A review and write-up for Garden Cafe, written mostly because I love eating at Garden Cafe.

Dallas has a thing for Sunday brunch. There are so many trendy, interesting places to get breakfast on a Sunday morning that the wait can be hours long and then you end up eating on the patio in the middle of the summer while your clothes melt into your skin.

That’s why it’s so great to discover a little hidden gem like Garden Café. While everyone else is standing around for a cramped table in a crowded hot-spot, you’ll breeze right into this best-kept secret and enjoy a hearty, wholesome meal. No, they don’t serve mimosas, but they do source their ingredients locally. They even have a garden out back where they grow many of their own herbs and veggies. Garden Café is not just a clever name.

Tucked out of sight in a neighborhood in East Dallas, Garden Café can be easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. Yet the locals know all about it and they turn out in droves. But somehow, even when it’s at its busiest, you can still walk right up and order a delicious home-cooked meal and be sitting down inside fifteen minutes. Grab a cup of coffee while you wait – you can even pick your own mug.

The food is exceptional. You’ll love the tried-and-true classics like two eggs with ham and hashbrowns or try the intriguing alternatives like the Country Boy Benedict or Angus Flat Iron. You can’t go wrong – everything is delicious. The friendliest service you’ll ever get will bring your food to your table and make sure you feel right at home.

Garden Café does have delicious food and delightful service, but with regular poetry dinners, intimate concerts and regular neighborhood meetings, this charming eatery is truly part of the community. There’s a reason it has survived nearly two decades in the ultra-competitive Dallas dining market. The locals love it, and if you stop by, you will, too.
